A Note from Ms. Long

Dear Cornerstone families,

As the cold weather begins to roll in, please be on the lookout for possible school closings. We often remind families of our Inclement Weather Policy via email, newsletter and morning announcements. The policy is also available on our website. I have pasted the policy directly from the website below.

If your child is mistakenly sent to the bus stop, it is Transportation Policy to pick up your child and attempt to contact you rather than leave them at the stop in the weather conditions. Though this is the most safe situation for children, it still results in a child spending many unnecessary hours on the bus. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE VARIETY OF VENUES IN WHICH WE ANNOUNCE SCHOOL CLOSINGS. *NEW THIS YEAR: We will also send an automated notification through “School Messenger”. This will contact you via the method you indicated in your child’s PowerSchool account.

Inclement Weather Policy
In the event of inclement weather, Cornerstone Academy will announce school cancellations via the major TV news channels: 4, 6, 10 and 28, as well as all Clear Channel radio stations: 92.3, 93.3, 97.9, 105.7, 106.7, 610WTVN and 1230AM.
Please look/listen for CORNERSTONE ACADEMY, not Columbus or Westerville City Schools. We make our decisions independently from these districts and they will be made no later than 6:00 am.
We do not delay school or release early for inclement weather. If your child rides a bus to school and the resident district that provides their transportation is on a delay, YOUR CHILD’S BUS WILL BE AFFECTED according to the publicized information on that district. In the event of inclement weather, parents are always welcome to pick up their children early if they wish. If school is cancelled due to weather, OASIS will also be closed.

Since we are on the topic, I’d like to take the opportunity to remind you of a tip regarding morning drop-off. As the weather begins to decline, families often arrive closer to 8:00am which causes more significant traffic back-up than in the beginning of the year. Please consider coming closer to 7:30am when our doors open. This helps avoid traffic delays, potential “tardies” and allows your child to socialize with friends before school begins. Arriving to an empty parking lot and quick drop off could allow you time to stop by Starbucks on your way to work. Wouldn’t that be nice!

Have a great day, everyone! We hope to see you at “Trunk-or-Treat” tomorrow evening. The fun begins at 6:30pm, rain or shine.
