Wisconsin Awards $16.1 Million to Charter Schools from Federal Funds

Federal grants totaling $16.1 million have been awarded in Wisconsin to support 84 charter schools for the 2012-13 school year, the state education department announced August 27, 2012.

The awards are 24 planning grants ($4.8 million); 20 implementation grants ($3.9 million) for first-year operations of new charter schools; 32 implementation renewal grants ($6.4 million) for charter schools in the second year of operation; and 8 dissemination or dissemination renewal grants ($1 million) for sharing best practices with charter and traditional schools, according to the announcement, which includes a list of the individual schools receiving grants.
